Peninah Zilberman

Founder & CEO, BA Jewish History, Judaic Teacher (United synagogue of America), Principal of Hebrew After School (Conservative), Director of Holocaust Museum in Toronto, Organizer of National Professional conferences across Canada; Served as Sisterhood President-Adath Israel Synagogue, IGS past Chair Modiin Chapter, Israel; Board Member of the “European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage” (AEPJ).

Peninah is the daughter of Romanian Holocaust survivors. Her mother Sary Walter Z”L was originally from Sighet and her late father from Bucharest.

Born in Israel, Peninah has been coming to Sigeht since 1998. After organsiging the first Gathering in 2014, she is now promoting Tarbut Foundation's objectives and campaigns. Her work is motivated by the memory of the Walter family, who lived in Sighet for nearly 200 years before they, along with the vast majority of the Jews of Maramures, were deported to and then murdered in the Auschwitz extermination camp.

Alina Marincean

Program Coordinator, BA in Jewish Studies at Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj Napoca, Romania. Presently she is the curator of Jewish Cultural Museum. Elie Wiesel memorial House in Sighet and a professional tourist guide, specializing in Jewish Roots Journeys.

Alina was born in Sighet and is extremely dedicated to Jewish studies researching and coordinating educational and cultural projects.

Shai Spetgang

a third generation Sighetein, attended 1994 March of the Living and created the online exhibit - Constructive Testimony. For many years Shai served as a tour guide at the Toronto Holocaust Museum. Shai and his family made Alyiah and he is now a Safety Manager in Israel.

It is important for Mr. Spetgang that Fundatia Tarbut Sighet will continue to raise the awareness of Jewish Culture and Jewish history of the Pre and Post-Holocaust eras in the Maramorish Region. Mr. Spetgang managed the logistics during the 2014, 2015, 2017 “Sighet Gatherings” and was privileged to have the opportunity to walk in his grandmother's footsteps and meet the one and only remaining family survivor Mrs. Golda Solomon Walter.
